Bad news has been received from the rescue operations under the rubble. It was reported that the lifeless body of Muhammed Emir Bilir has been recovered. While search and rescue efforts continue, intense efforts are being made to rescue the other family members.

WHY DID THE BUILDING COLLAPSE?

As questions regarding why the building collapsed before it fell continue to grow, statements have been made about the incident. Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz pointed to the ongoing metro construction near the building, but the situation of a pharmacy on the ground floor of the building has drawn attention.

SHIFTING OCCURRED BEFORE THE COLLAPSE

Halk TV reporter Umut Taştan reported that the building experienced shifting before it collapsed. According to Taştan, pharmacy employees noticed a shift at the entrance of the pharmacy on the ground floor. The situation was immediately reported to the pharmacy owner, Uğur Aydın. After Aydın conveyed the situation to his contractor, the Gebze Municipality launched an investigation following the report of shifting.

However, according to allegations, the inspection conducted by municipal teams found no issues with the building, and a "no problem" report was issued. Only a few hours after this report, the building collapsed.
