New development following the decision of lack of jurisdiction in the Can Holding case!

Following the operation launched against Can Holding by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on September 11, a decision of lack of jurisdiction was issued. The investigation file has been transferred to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and delivered to the Prosecutor's Office's Organized Crime Bureau.

GENDARMERIE OPERATION AT HABERTÜRK BUILDING

As part of the investigation, a raid was conducted on the Habertürk building by the gendarmerie. Given Can Holding's significant stakes in media, education, and other sectors, questions had been raised as to why the operation was initiated by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

STRIKING ALLEGATIONS FROM PRO-AKP MEDIA

Sabah newspaper, one of the media outlets close to the AKP government, claimed that Can Holding manages a 1 billion dollar illegal cigarette market across 11 different countries. The newspaper alleged that Murat Can and Mehmet Şakir Can were recorded as global barons in an investigation launched by the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF).

The investigation launched into Can Holding concerns charges of 'establishing a criminal organization,' 'tax evasion,' 'fraud,' and 'money laundering.' While those arrested include Devran Çimen, Devran Can, Mehmet Kaya, Kemal Çimen, and Cemal Can, suspects Kemal Can, Mehmet Şakir Can, Rumert Onur Can, and Murat Can are still being sought.
