New development in cable car accident: Mayor arrested
Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz has been arrested in connection with the cable car accident in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya, which resulted in 1 death and 7 injuries.
On Friday, April 12, one of the cabins of the Tünektepe Cable Car and Social Facilities, located in the central Konyaaltı district of Antalya and owned by a subsidiary of the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, fell while in operation.
One citizen lost their life in the incident, while 7 people, including 2 children, were injured.
5 PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE MAYOR, ARRESTED
According to reports by Cumhuriyet, CHP Kepez Mayor Mesut Kocagöz, who was the General Manager of ANET at the time of the incident, was arrested by the court after giving his statement regarding the cable car accident in Antalya that caused 1 death and multiple injuries.
Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also issued a written statement on the matter. Minister Tunç stated, "Out of 14 suspects, 5 have been arrested, judicial control measures have been imposed on 8 suspects, and 1 person has been released."
Tunç's statement is as follows:
"Regarding the incident in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya, where a cable car pylon on the Sarısu-Tünektepe line broke, causing one of the moving cabins to fall, resulting in the death of 1 citizen, the injury of 17 citizens, and the rescue of citizens stranded in the cabins, the judicial investigation initiated by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is ongoing;
Under the coordination of 1 Deputy Chief Public Prosecutor and 1 Public Prosecutor, a detailed crime scene investigation and site survey were conducted by an expert committee consisting of 2 occupational health and safety experts, 2 mechanical experts, and 1 electrical expert, and a preliminary report has been prepared.
Within the scope of the investigation, the preliminary report prepared by the expert committee, along with the statements and testimonies of the complainants and the defenses of the suspects, have been evaluated. Out of 14 suspects, including officials and employees of the company operating the cable car line and the company responsible for its maintenance and repair, 5 have been arrested, judicial control measures have been imposed on 8 suspects, and 1 person has been released.
The judicial investigation into the incident, which has saddened us all, is being conducted meticulously in all its aspects."
