New development in CHP convention lawsuits

The lawsuit filed for the cancellation of the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention has been merged with the lawsuit filed for the cancellation of the 21st Extraordinary Convention. The date for the joint hearing of both cases has been set for Monday, May 26.

The lawsuits filed with the request to cancel the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention, held on November 4-5, 2023, and the 21st Extraordinary Convention, held on April 6, have been merged.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Following allegations that the 'change' convention, where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu lost and Özgür Özel became the CHP Chairman, would be cancelled, the CHP administration had decided to hold an extraordinary convention.

Özgür Özel was re-elected as chairman at the Extraordinary Convention held on April 6, 2025.

Following this convention, two delegates, Yılmaz Özkanat and Hatip Karaaslan, applied to the court for the cancellation of the CHP's 21st Extraordinary Convention. The petition requested that "Chairman Özgür Özel, members of the Central Executive Board, members of the Party Assembly, and members of the High Disciplinary Board be suspended from their duties as a precautionary measure."
