New development in the Ayşe Tokyaz murder: Active-duty police officer also in custody

A new development has occurred in the Ayşe Tokyaz murder case, which caused widespread outrage in Istanbul. In the incident that took place at the beginning of 2024, the young woman's lifeless body was found discarded on the side of the road inside a suitcase.

In the later stages of the investigation, six other individuals determined to have acted in concert with Cemil Koç, the victim's former boyfriend and a dismissed police officer, were arrested.

THE PERSON WHO CARRIED THE SUITCASE IS IN CUSTODY

A suspect named Oğuz K. (55), who was determined to have assisted in the process of removing the suitcase from the house and carrying it to the car after the murder, was taken into custody. It was learned that Oğuz K., who was referred to the courthouse following his processing at the police station, has a criminal record of 20 separate offenses. In his statement to the police, Oğuz K. denied the accusations.

ACTIVE-DUTY POLICE OFFICER ALSO IN CUSTODY

Deepening the investigation, the Istanbul Police Department took another individual into custody who was assessed to be linked to the murder. This time, the person detained was an active-duty police officer. The suspect, identified as I.U.U., was referred to the courthouse following his processing at the Gayrettepe Public Security Branch Directorate.

NUMBER OF DETENTIONS RISING

Thus, while the detention and arrest process in the Ayşe Tokyaz murder case began with seven people, the number has risen to 9 with the latest detentions.
