New development in the Batın Barlasçeki case: It has emerged that Fatma Zehra Kınık is in prison

It has been learned that Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık, is in prison as part of the sentence she received regarding the traffic accident in which 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki lost his life. Kerem Kınık made the announcement on his social media account.

Kınık used the following expressions in his post:

"My dear daughter Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir has been in prison for some time to serve the sentence given by the court where she was tried due to the accident she was involved in. I felt the need to share this information as I have seen that my daughter and our family are being targeted and made the subject of distorted and false news in some media outlets. In the case where there were no complainants, both my daughter and the motorcycle driver received sentences, and the Forensic Medicine Traffic Specialization Department found both drivers and our deceased young man at fault. May God have mercy on our child who lost his life, grant patience to his grieving family, and protect everyone from visible and invisible accidents."

HE ANNOUNCED SHE IS IN PRISON HIMSELF

In his post, Kerem Kınık stated that his daughter had been in prison for some time and alleged that "distorted and false news" about their family was being published in some media outlets. He stated that he felt the need to inform the public for this reason.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The traffic accident involving Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir occurred in July 2024. In the accident, 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki was seriously injured and lost his life at the hospital where he was taken. Three other people were also injured in the incident.

Fatma Zehra Kınık Demir, who was not arrested during the trial process, was sentenced to 4 years and 2 months in prison in May 2025. After some complainants withdrew their complaints, the file was re-evaluated and the sentence was reduced to 2 years and 6 months. While the decision was taken to the appellate court, the applications made were rejected.
