New development in the case of missing economist Korhan Berzeg

Search efforts continue for Korhan Berzeg (84), who went missing after leaving his summer home in the Gönen district of Balıkesir with his dog 'Tina'. After 312 days, his identification, driver's license, bank and credit cards, clothing fragments, and bone fragments believed to belong to him were found by a stream 3.5 kilometers from his home.

61 GENDARMERIE PERSONNEL CONDUCTING SEARCH

While another bone fragment was found yesterday during the 4-day search operation in the area, a 30-square-kilometer zone is being scanned with 3 cadaver dogs. 61 gendarmerie personnel are also searching through the bushes using rakes.

It was learned that the bone has been sent to Istanbul to determine if it is connected to the previously found remains.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

A search operation coordinated by the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) was launched for economist Korhan Berzeg (83), who had not been heard from since he left his home in the Armutlu neighborhood for a morning walk with his dog "Tina" on June 17, 2023.

Teams searched for days in the forested area around Armutlu as well as in nearby neighborhoods, water wells, stream beds, and caves for Berzeg and his dog, but could not find any trace.

The dog spotted by a citizen between the Geyikli and Armutlu neighborhoods on August 29 was identified as "Tina" by the Berzeg family. It was determined that the dog was healthy and well-cared for. No results were obtained even after the dog, fitted with a Global Positioning System (GPS) device, was released into the terrain.

On April 23, bone and clothing fragments, along with identification and bank cards, were found by local residents approximately 3.5 kilometers from Armutlu and were taken under examination by the teams.

Korhan Berzeg's wife, Angela, and daughter, Nisa Berzeg, came to Gönen to provide DNA samples, which were then sent to Istanbul for laboratory analysis.
