The Women's Branch and the Beyoğlu Municipality have filed a petition with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to intervene in the trial of two suspects who sexually assaulted a woman in the district last week.
Hatice Selli Dursun, President of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Women's Branch, criticized the statement made by AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik regarding the “creation of a perception of impunity” in a statement she made in front of the courthouse after submitting the petition.
Dursun stated, “It is not a perception of impunity, but a reality of impunity. The sole remedy for all of this is the reinstatement of the Istanbul Convention and its effective implementation,” she said.
