New development regarding Abdüllatif Şener's son Bedirhan Şener
The indictment prepared against Bedirhan Şener, the son of Abdüllatif Şener, who shot and killed his grandmother Leyla Çetiner in Ankara, has been accepted by the Ankara 1st High Criminal Court. The date for Şener's appearance in court has been set.
Bedirhan Şener, the son of former minister Abdüllatif Şener, opened fire on his mother Berrin Şener and his grandmother Leyla Çetiner, who had come to visit him on July 31.
While Leyla Çetiner lost her life in the incident, Bedirhan Şener, who is alleged to have psychological issues, was taken into custody.
It was decided that Bedirhan Şener, who was placed under judicial control and a travel ban, would be held under observation at the High-Security Forensic Psychiatry Hospital of Bilkent City Hospital.
The report prepared during the observation period stated that Şener did not have a mental illness or deficiency of a nature or severity that would affect his criminal responsibility, and that he was able to perceive the legal meaning and consequences of the act related to the crime he is alleged to have committed. Şener was arrested on August 29.
The investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Şener has been completed and an indictment has been filed. In the indictment, it was requested that Bedirhan Şener be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and up to 23 years in prison for the crimes of 'intentional killing of an ascendant', 'attempted intentional killing of an ascendant', and 'violation of the law on firearms, knives, and other instruments'. The prepared indictment was accepted by the Ankara 1st High Criminal Court.
Şener will appear before the judge on October 24.
