New development regarding Başaran Aksu, who was detained during the Migros protest
While approximately 100 workers detained during the protest held by Migros warehouse employees have been released, it has been reported that Umut-Sen Organizing Coordinator Başaran Aksu will be referred to the Beykoz Courthouse today.
Workers employed at Migros warehouses gathered in front of the Beykoz villa of Tuncay Özilhan, the owner of the Anadolu Group to which the company belongs, on the ninth day of their resistance against a 28 percent wage hike offer. After voicing their demands, the employees were met with police intervention when they attempted to continue their protest following a press statement.
During the intervention, in which approximately 100 people were detained, officials from the Warehouse, Port, Shipyard and Marine Workers' Union (DGD-SEN), as well as Umut-Sen Organizing Coordinator Başaran Aksu and DGD-SEN President Neslihan Acar, were among those taken into custody. Those detained were released after giving their statements at the Vatan Security Directorate in Fatih, Istanbul. However, it was learned that Başaran Aksu's processing is ongoing and he is being held to be referred to the Beykoz Courthouse today.
In an announcement made by DGD-SEN, it was stated, "Except for Başaran Aksu, all warehouse workers and our union management have been released. Başaran Aksu will be brought to the Beykoz Courthouse at noon today. We call on the entire public to gather in front of the Beykoz Courthouse at 12:00! Our demands are clear and reasonable; we will definitely win."
