New development regarding fugitive suspect Umut Altaş in the Gülistan Doku investigation: Surrendered in the US

In the investigation into the disappearance of Gülistan Doku, a second-year Child Development student at Munzur University who has been missing in Tunceli since January 5, 2020, 12 of the 15 suspects detained were arrested, while judicial control measures were imposed on three others.

A red notice had been issued via Interpol for the fugitive suspect Umut Altaş, who was in the US. Earlier this morning, Altaş made his first statement to a media outlet, expressing his desire for this case to finally be resolved. It has been learned that Umut Altaş has surrendered to security forces in the US.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Akşam newspaper this morning, Altaş claimed that Türkay Sonel had personally confessed the murder to him at the governor's residence, stating, "I was naive back then. Türkay even left me a note indicating that he had committed this murder himself. At the residence, he told me, 'She was screaming a lot, so I shot her.' I even touched the murder weapon while in the vehicle. I want this case to be resolved now."

Sharing his theories, Altaş said, "He must have killed her on the viaduct, then called his bodyguard, Şükrü. I think they took the body from there in a 'Santa Fe' model vehicle. He was already doing everything for that bodyguard; he was the governor's bodyguard. He was exactly the type to bury a man; he has the look of a serial killer."

Stating that he does not know the exact location of the body, Altaş suggested that the landfill area next to the water treatment plant in the Bayraktepe locality of the Aktuluk neighborhood, near the university, should be searched.
