New development regarding the collapsed building in Küçükçekmece

Following the collapse of the apartment building in the Kartaltepe neighborhood, the suspects detained as part of the investigation launched by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were taken to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse after their procedures at the police station.

Among the suspects, the owner of the doner kebab shop, Ö.A.D., and his wife, İ.D., were released after giving their statements to the public prosecutor.

The prosecutor referred the building owner, H.M.G., to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for his arrest, and the former owner of the doner kebab shop, Ö.K., with a request for judicial control measures.

BUILDING OWNER STATED TO BE AT FAULT

The prosecutor's referral document stated that despite statements from the ground-floor business owners that the building was shaking, the suspect H.M.G. did not make any application to official authorities to determine whether the structure was dilapidated.

It was noted that the suspect did not consult with any private company regarding the structural integrity or reinforcement of the building for the safety of the residents and those in the vicinity. Furthermore, it was recorded that although the official plans showed 3 floors above the ground floor, there were actually 4 floors above the ground floor, and this fact was known to the property owner.

The referral document stated that the suspect did not make any application to official authorities regarding an inspection or zoning for this issue either, and that he was requested to be arrested for the crime of "causing death by negligence" on the grounds that he was at fault for the collapse of the building he owned, and for the death and injuries of those living inside.

On the other hand, according to the initial expert examination at the building's wreckage, it was learned that no cutting of columns or beams was detected at this stage and that investigations are ongoing.

The duty criminal judgeship of peace decided to arrest the building owner, H.M.G., and to release the former business owner, Ö.K., under judicial control conditions.
