New development regarding the missing weapon in the Sinan Ateş murder: Two days after the assassination...

The trial regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları President Sinan Ateş, who was killed in an assassination in Ankara, remains on the agenda.

In the trial where 22 detained defendants are being tried, release decisions were made for 10 people, and the next hearing was postponed to July 19.

A new development regarding the Sinan Ateş murder has come to light.

According to the report in T24, during the efforts to clarify the incident, a letter sent by Public Order Branch Manager Oben Özbay to the Protection Branch Directorate noted that a phone examination conducted by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate of Vedat Balkaya, the detained defendant who drove the hitman Eray Özyağcı away from the scene, revealed that they had waited for a while on the Atatürk Coastal Road of Mogan Lake in the Gölbaşı district, and since it was evaluated that the crime weapon in question might have been thrown into Mogan Lake, a team of police divers from the Underwater Group Command was needed. Upon this, it was stated that 5 frogmen were assigned to search Mogan Lake on January 1, 2023.

In the minutes included in the investigation file, it was stated that a search activity was carried out by diving along the shore for approximately 100 meters in length and 15 meters away from the shore at the scene in question, and as a result of the search, the crime weapon in question was not found.

WHAT DID HITMAN ERAY ÖZYAĞCI SAY ABOUT THE MISSING WEAPON?

Hitman Eray Özyağcı, who provided information about the weapon during the investigation phase, claimed that he hid the weapon after moving away from the scene with Vedat Balkaya after the murder and transferring to another vehicle, and said, "Since I don't know Ankara very well, I don't know where we passed on the route, but after a while, I realized we entered the highway. After traveling for about a few hours, I told him to stop the vehicle. I got out of the vehicle alone and went towards a place with bushes. I hid the GLOCK brand pistol I used in the incident, the 32-round magazine attached to this pistol, the pistol's own 15-round magazine, and as far as I remember, 35 cartridges inside these magazines under the bushes so they wouldn't be seen. My purpose in doing this was to come back and get them later, but I absolutely do not remember where this place is right now. I had bought the weapon for 50 thousand TL from a person whose name and exact location I don't remember in Istanbul about 1 and a half to 2 years ago because I was on the run. After leaving the weapon, I quickly got into the vehicle and we continued to drive towards Istanbul."
