New development regarding those detained at the Gezi Park commemoration
Of the 94 university students detained during the commemoration held for the 12th anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, 82 have been released. The 12 students still in custody will be brought to the courthouse today.
Following a call by Taksim Solidarity with the slogan "The darkness fades, Gezi remains" for the 12th anniversary of the Gezi Park protests, people gathered yesterday evening at 19:00 at the intersection of Mis Street and Süslü Saksı Street. Despite a heavy police blockade, a large number of young people attended the commemoration.
Security forces intervened against youth groups who attempted to march toward Taksim Square following a press statement. Despite the intervention, some groups continued their march toward Şişhane while chanting slogans. A total of 94 people were detained during the actions.
While 82 students were released during the night, the 12 individuals held in custody will be referred to the Istanbul Çağlayan Courthouse today after their procedures are completed.
