New era in international shopping: Changes to taxes and limits

A new regulation regarding international purchases has come into effect.

Within the scope of this regulation, the limit for purchases made from international e-commerce sites via express cargo has been lowered from 150 euros to 30 euros. According to the new regulation, the tax rate will be applied as 30 percent for shipments from European Union (EU) countries and 60 percent for shipments from non-EU countries.

With the Presidential decree published in the Official Gazette, amendments were made to the decision regarding the implementation of certain articles of the Customs Law No. 4458. With this change, the flat tax rates for goods brought from abroad have been redetermined.

Accordingly, the shopping limit for products arriving from abroad via mail or express cargo has been reduced from 150 euros to 30 euros. Furthermore, the tax rate for shipments from the EU has been increased from 18 percent to 30 percent, and from 30 percent to 60 percent for shipments from non-EU countries.

On the other hand, in the case of goods included in the list numbered IV attached to the Special Consumption Tax Law No. 4760, an additional single and flat tax of 20 percent will be collected on top of the aforementioned tax rates. If an individual brings these products from abroad personally, they will not be subject to any tariff.
