New footage has emerged regarding the vehicle of Ahmet Derin, who was swept away by an overflowing creek in the Ayazağa neighborhood of Sarıyer during the heavy rainfall that hit Istanbul on Wednesday, October 14. In the moments captured on a mobile phone camera, the intensity of the floodwaters and the panic experienced by those in the vicinity were evident.
The footage shows the water rising rapidly as the creek overflows, with people in the area attempting to move away from their locations. During the recording, a person can be heard saying, "Look at that current, brother. Oh no, oh no, the creek is overflowing, friends. Let's get down, let's get out of here."
"THERE IS A MAN INSIDE"
As the moments of panic in the recording progress, the anxiety of those nearby is also reflected in their conversations. A person is heard saying, "Brother, let's get down, we're probably going to die here," while those who realized the vehicle was being swept away by the floodwaters are heard saying, "There is a man inside. There is a man inside, I swear. God, please help. May God help."
It had been reported that 63-year-old Ahmet Derin was swept away by floodwaters along with his vehicle during the downpour. A search operation was launched in the area after no news could be received from Derin.
It was reported that numerous homes, businesses, and vehicles were submerged as a result of the creek overflowing in the Ayazağa neighborhood. Footage taken in the area where the flood was effective showed that the water reached a level capable of sweeping away streets and vehicles in a short time.
On the other hand, it was stated that search efforts are also continuing to find 55-year-old Haşim Ciritoğulları, who went missing in the same flood. It was noted that teams are continuing their work in the region.
