New fraud scheme leaves people in disbelief

The General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs has issued warnings to citizens regarding fraudsters.

In a statement made on the directorate's social media account, it was noted that in recent days, there have been individuals going door-to-door posing as Ministry of Interior personnel, coming to homes under the pretext of verifying identity information for a census.

The statement indicated that it has been observed on social media that these individuals are alleged to carry fake documents, letterhead papers, and biometric devices, are well-dressed, and are attempting to obtain personal information.

The statement explained that the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs provides population services at home upon the request of individuals or their relatives, with the permission of the local administrative authority, to meet the identity card application needs of citizens who are unable to go to population offices. The following statements were included:

"To avoid any victimization, it is of great importance that our citizens who have not requested home-based population services from population offices do not trust individuals who come to their homes claiming to be Ministry of Interior personnel or civil registry officers, that they must demand the presentation of official institutional identification, that they remain vigilant against fraud, that they absolutely do not share their personal information, and that they report such situations to law enforcement agencies if encountered."
