New judicial year to begin tomorrow

During the judicial recess that began on July 20 with a circular from the General Secretariat of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors, duty courts operating in courthouses handled cases involving detainees and those of an urgent nature. Other cases were adjourned until the new judicial year.

Duty panels also served in the high judicial bodies, the Council of State and the Court of Cassation, during this period. The Constitutional Court was not included in the scope of the judicial recess.

The new judicial year will begin tomorrow with a ceremony to be held at the Court of Cassation.

IMPORTANT CASES IN ANKARA

Following the start of the new judicial year, the hearing of cases considered important by the public will continue.

In this context, the trial of the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization will be heard on September 9, and the trial regarding the murder of former Ülkü Ocakları Education and Culture Foundation President and Hacettepe University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş will be heard on September 30.

Kemalettin Özdemir, who is facing trial for "establishing or managing an armed terrorist organization" on allegations of being the "secret imam of the police" for FETÖ, will also appear before the judge on September 11.

The trial of 4 defendants, including former Ankaragücü Club President Faruk Koca, who attacked referee Halil Umut Meler at the end of the MKE Ankaragücü-Çaykur Rizespor match, will continue on October 2.

JUDICIAL YEAR MESSAGE FROM JUSTICE MINISTER TUNÇ

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that they will continue to sign off on important reforms to raise the standards of democracy, strengthen the rule of law, and expand fundamental rights and freedoms.

In his message published for the 2024-2025 judicial year, Tunç stated that justice is the foundation of the state and the guarantee of social peace and tranquility.

"Justice is delivering rights to the rights-holder and putting everything in its proper place." Using this expression, Tunç emphasized that the manifestation of justice is possible through the rule of law, and the rule of law is possible through an impartial and independent judiciary.

Wishing that the 2024-2025 judicial year will be auspicious for the country and the nation, Tunç wished success in their work to the judges, public prosecutors, lawyers, and the entire justice organization who work selflessly for the manifestation of justice.

Tunç noted the following in his message:

"As we have for the last 23 years, we will continue our work with determination to increase the effectiveness and quality of the delivery of justice services without ever compromising the principle of the rule of law, to carry trust in justice to the peak, and to make the Century of Turkey the century of justice.

We will continue to sign off on important reforms to raise the standards of our democracy, strengthen the rule of law, and expand fundamental rights and freedoms."
