New practice for driver's licenses: These mistakes will lead to license cancellation

A new practice regarding driver's licenses is being implemented with the Bill on Amendments to Certain Laws and Decree Laws accepted by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

According to the regulation, those who obtain a driver's license for the first time and those who have regained the right to obtain a license after their license was revoked for any reason will be considered "probationary drivers" for 2 years from the date the license is issued.

The legislative amendment was prepared within the scope of regulations made to the Highway Traffic Law in line with the Constitutional Court's annulment decision. The goal is to monitor drivers who are new to traffic more closely during their probationary period and to ensure the effective implementation of traffic safety rules.

IN WHICH CASES WILL A PROBATIONARY DRIVER'S LICENSE BE REVOKED?

If certain violations are committed during the probationary driving period, the probationary driver's license will be revoked. In this context, committing a violation that requires the temporary suspension of the driver's license, exceeding 75 penalty points, or being caught driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level above 0.20 promille, regardless of the vehicle type, will be considered grounds for revocation.

Furthermore, the probationary driver's license will be revoked if any of the provisions regarding turning rules, yielding the right of way to pedestrians, or the obligation for drivers and passengers to use protective systems are violated 3 times.

Those whose probationary driver's licenses are revoked will be required to attend driving courses and successfully pass exams to obtain a motor vehicle driver's certificate in order to obtain a new driver's license.

To begin retraining, these individuals will be required to submit a document to the driving school showing that they have no medical impediment to driving, based on a psychotechnical evaluation and an examination by a psychiatry specialist. Additionally, all administrative fines must be paid, and any waiting periods resulting from revocation or temporary suspension processes must be completed.

Probationary driver's license revocation procedures will be carried out by traffic police, whose duties and authorities are specified in the Highway Traffic Law.
