New reaction from Bahçeli to the Amedspor study! He recalled why he left Beşiktaş
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli criticized the study on Amedspor fandom, stating that sports should not be associated with ethnic identity or political views. Warning that uncontrolled direction of activity in the stands could lead to different consequences, Bahçeli said, "It is a folly to equate sports with identity."
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the second opening process conducted with the DEM Party and the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, has made new statements regarding the "Research on Amedspor Perception and Fandom Among Kurds" prepared by the Kurdish Studies Center (KSC) and Rawest Research.
Having previously reacted to the research, Bahçeli had stated that the study was "trying to keep the treason of separatism alive."
Speaking to Nasuhi Güngör from Habertürk, Bahçeli stated that football is not just about the struggle on the field and that the atmosphere in the stands should also be taken into account.
Expressing that the activity in the stands can be directed by certain individuals, Bahçeli stated that his concern is related to his sensitivity regarding this situation being used for specific purposes.
"In Turkey, football is an event that takes place not only with the struggle on the field but also with its enthusiasm in the stadium and in the stands. The activity there is directed by stand leaders, people called 'amigos'. My concern is related to my sensitivity regarding these being used for specific purposes."
HE RECALLED THE SLOGANS AT THE BEŞİKTAŞ MATCH
Bahçeli also explained that he left his membership in the Beşiktaş club in the past due to slogans chanted in the stands.
Explaining the reason for this decision with his concern that the activity in the stands could get out of control, Bahçeli used the following expressions:
"The public will remember. I left my club membership due to the discomfort I felt from the slogans chanted at a Beşiktaş match. Because no one can predict where it might lead if the activity in the stands becomes uncontrolled."
CRITICISM OF THE AMEDSPOR RESEARCH
Bahçeli continued his criticisms regarding the Amedspor research that he had previously voiced. Stating that he is against evaluating sports through identity, the MHP Chairman argued that the research brings together the concepts of politics, sports, and identity.
Bahçeli included these words in his assessment:
"It is a folly to say that politics, sports, and identity are intertwined through an obscure research and to equate sports with identity."
"SPORTS SHOULD BE A FIELD THAT UNITES AND INTEGRATES"
Bahçeli stated that sports should be a field that brings together different segments of society. Stating that ethnic origin, sect, and political differences should not be turned into a divisive element through sports, Bahçeli concluded his words as follows:
"Regardless of political view, ethnic origin, sect, or disposition, sports is an activity that should unite, integrate, and embrace everyone. Efforts to integrate it with identity take Turkey to a different place. With mutual reactions, some issues can once again gain dangerous dimensions."
