New statement from Qandil: 'It is not possible to convene a congress under these conditions'
Cemil Bayık, a senior figure in the PKK terrorist organization, issued a statement regarding the call by the organization's leader, Abdullah Öcalan, for the group to disband and lay down its arms. Bayık stated that it is not possible to convene a congress under current conditions, adding that the process would be evaluated if appropriate conditions are met.
Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, made a long-awaited statement calling for the organization to disband and lay down its arms.
Öcalan stated, "I am issuing a call to lay down arms in this climate created by the call made by Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, the will put forward by the President, and the positive approaches of other political parties to the aforementioned call, and I am assuming the historical responsibility of this call." He also addressed the PKK, saying, "Convene your congress and take a decision for integration with the state and society."
RESPONSE TO THE CALL FROM THE SEPARATIST ORGANIZATION
Following Öcalan's statement, an announcement from Qandil declared that they support their leader's call and will take steps accordingly. However, Cemil Bayık, one of the organization's senior figures, argued that current conditions make it difficult to take such a decision.
Regarding Turkey's military operations, Bayık said, "Everyone knows that it is not possible and is dangerous to convene the congress under these conditions. If the conditions are met, the congress will convene and take those decisions. The movement has already declared this clearly. As the co-presidency, we have also declared this. Everyone knows this as well."
CEASEFIRE STATEMENT ALSO ISSUED
The statement from the PKK terrorist organization said, "None of our armed forces will take action unless there is an attack." However, the organization conditions the fulfillment of Öcalan's call on the cessation of military operations and the start of political negotiations.
The PKK also reiterated its demands for the release of Öcalan, arguing that this step is necessary for the process to proceed healthily.
AGREEMENT IN SYRIA
Bayık also touched upon the agreement signed between the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which holds the status of a provisional government in Syria, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Stating that this agreement is critical for the region, Bayık said, "This is a beginning, a good beginning. The Alawites should also know that they are one of the fundamental forces of this move."
