New statement from the AKP, which abolished the '30 Euro customs exemption': Situations creating technological necessity
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik held a press conference following the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting chaired by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. During the meeting, Çelik made a new statement regarding the decision to abolish the 30 Euro customs exemption, which had drawn significant public backlash.
As of August 6, all products purchased from abroadvia theinternet will be subject to customsprocedures and a declaration requirement will be introduced. Following intense public backlash, a signal of a step backcame from the AKP.
Ömer Çelik stated that virtual betting and gamblingstating that it is being used as a toolfor operations against Turkey,and said that illegal betting networks are being addressed in all their dimensions,along with their money launderingand mafia connections.Çelik stated that
mobile phonesand digital platforms spread throughthis threat, aiming to protect society and citizensa comprehensiveaction plan was discussed as the mainagenda item at theMYKmeeting.expressed his views.

Regarding the customs duty exemption, the dMaking assessments regarding theregulation, Çelik stated that themain reason forabolishing the practiceregarding orders under30 euros is consumerhealth, product safetyand the prevention of unfair competitionwas thereason, he said.
Çelik stated, "The Ministry of Tradeis closely monitoring the processregarding excessive pricingis following it closely. Exceptional situations that create a technological necessitycould be opento newevaluations,he said.
