New statement from the doctor who performed Sırrı Süreyya Önder's surgery: 'What gives us hope...'

Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder was rushed to Florence Nightingale Hospital in Şişli yesterday evening due to a heart condition.

Önder, whose heart stopped at 22:41, received initial intervention from 112 ambulance teams. Önder, who underwent 10 minutes of CPR in the emergency room, had his heart stop once more at 23:05.

Önder was taken into emergency surgery, which began at 23:35 and lasted approximately 12 hours. A statement from the hospital announced that Önder had been moved to intensive care and that his life remains in danger.

Prof. Dr. Ertan Sağbaş, who operated on Sırrı Süreyya Önder, provided information about Önder's condition to DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan.

'THERE ARE ONE OR TWO PARAMETERS THAT GIVE US HOPE, BUT...'

Sağbaş made the following statement:

"There are one or two parameters that give us hope. There is an improvement in a parameter related to circulation. It seems the bleeding has stopped.

There is a situation where he seems to be trying to breathe on his own. He reacted when his daughter went in to see him.

These are good things, but the issue with the right side of his heart not pumping continues.

The machine taking over body functions is performing the duties of the heart and lungs. We continue to monitor him moment by moment."
