New statement from Yılmaz Tunç regarding the Narin Güran murder investigation

The lifeless body of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21 in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır, was found on the 19th day of search efforts in the Eğertutmaz Stream, approximately 2 kilometers from the village.

Following the autopsy procedures, Narin's body was handed over to her relatives. Narin was laid to rest in the Tavşantepe neighborhood, where she was murdered, after the funeral prayer held in a neighboring village.

LATEST STATUS IN THE NARİN GÜRAN INVESTIGATION

While 24 people, including members of Narin Güran's family, have been detained in the incident that has dominated Turkey's agenda, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç shared the latest details regarding the investigation.

MINISTER TUNÇ: THEY WILL RECEIVE THE HEAVIEST PENALTY

Minister Tunç stated that there are findings obtained but that the cross-examinations have not yet concluded. Minister Tunç said, "Those who caused her brutal murder, those who murdered her, will be found. They will receive the heaviest penalty."

Minister Tunç's statement is as follows:

"Hundreds of people searched for Narin for days. During this time, while search efforts continued with all the resources of our state, a judicial investigation was launched. Statements were taken, road checks were conducted, cameras were identified, and 276 people were questioned. Our Forensic Medicine Institute conducted its work. It was seen that it did not match Narin. It was determined that the DNA of Narin in her uncle's vehicle matched the DNA on the driver's seat. For this reason, her uncle was arrested.

Narin's lifeless body was identified by gendarmerie teams in the stream bed. Her body was found inside a sack in the presence of the Public Prosecutor. We are deeply saddened; we wish she could have been found alive. It has deeply wounded us. Autopsy procedures began immediately. A report will emerge as a result of those examinations. While DNA and autopsy procedures were ongoing, we increased the number of our Public Prosecutors. 23 more people were detained as suspects. Statement procedures are ongoing. During the night hours, one more person's statement was taken.

Those who caused her brutal murder, those who murdered her, will be found. They will receive the heaviest penalty. There are findings obtained within the scope of the investigation. Statements and cross-examinations are ongoing. As the Minister of Justice, I have followed those meticulous efforts by speaking about the investigation several times a day. Our President has also conveyed his demands from the very beginning regarding the instructions he gave for Narin to be found alive, for the judicial investigation to be continued, and for them to receive the heaviest penalty. He is following the investigation closely. Our Public Prosecutors are also continuing their work regarding those who murdered Narin. We will follow the investigation throughout this process.

In order for such tragic events not to be committed in this country, we must all take care of our children together. First and foremost, it is the duty of the families; if they cannot manage, it is the duty of the state. We will continue to take all kinds of measures to prevent child abuse and sexual abuse. The investigation is being conducted in secrecy. When all evidence is revealed and the perpetrators are identified, a lawsuit will be filed, and they will be sentenced to the necessary punishment with the heaviest penalty. The public needs to be reassured.

What falls to us is to find those who treated her so badly. To find them, bring them to justice, and have that sentence given by an impartial and independent judiciary. We are following it closely. We are continuing this investigation intensively."
