New Year's Eve tension in Taksim: Police take action
Fights that broke out during New Year's Eve celebrations in Taksim, Istanbul, overshadowed the festivities. As an argument between venue staff and customers escalated, police intervened in a separate altercation.
During the hours when New Year's Eve celebrations were ongoing in Taksim, Istanbul, an argument broke out between two customers leaving an entertainment venue and the venue's staff on Kurabiye Street, located off Istiklal Avenue. The verbal dispute, which began around 02:00, quickly turned into a fight.
The venue staff attacked the customers with kicks and punches. The two individuals, who fell to the ground, were beaten for a long time and became the target of kicks. The fight ended when the attackers moved away.
SECOND FIGHT ENDED WITH POLICE INTERVENTION
At the same time, a fight broke out between two groups at another point on Istiklal Avenue. Police teams intervened against the parties who were attacking each other with kicks and punches.
While the individuals involved in the fight were taken into custody, the incidents were recorded by the mobile phone cameras of citizens in the area.
