New Year's message from imprisoned Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu

CHP Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, in a New Year's message released through his lawyers following his arrest on September 17, 2025, expressed his belief in the restoration of the rule of law and peace. Wishing for the new year to bring peace, democracy, and law to Turkey, Mutlu stated that he would continue his struggle despite the difficulties of the process he is going through.

"INJUSTICES WILL END, PEACE WILL COME"

Stating that he is on the 110th day of his imprisonment, Hasan Mutlu said, "Today is my 110th day in this cell. My friends and I have been in isolation for 110 days. Like our other imprisoned friends, we are waiting for the indictment to be issued. In every New Year's message, we used to wish for peace, but can there be peace without the rule of law?" Drawing attention to the difficulties of this process, Mutlu emphasized his belief that it will pass and that these dark days will come to an end.

Speaking about the uncertainty of the imprisonment process, Mutlu called for the restoration of the rule of law in Turkey. Stating, "Since we haven't been able to create an indictment yet, I guess we haven't been able to manufacture enough crimes," he asserted that neither he nor his friends are guilty. Mutlu said, "We are not criminals, but people upon whom they are trying to manufacture crimes."

"WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON OUR DREAMS"

Reiterating his determination in the struggle for law and democracy, Mayor Mutlu said, "Despite all these difficulties, pressures, and injustices, we will never give up on the beautiful dreams we have built for our Turkey, for our people, for our nature, and for all living things." In his message, Mutlu stated that the difficulties and psychological pressures he is experiencing are also reflected on his family members outside, noting that individuals are being pressured to tell the truth and forced to provide the statements that are demanded of them.
