News from the Palace: Mehmet Uçum outlines the expected new steps in the reconciliation process!

While the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, established in the TBMM as part of the second reconciliation process—which the government calls a 'Terror-Free Turkey' and which began with the call of MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli—continues its work, the DEM Party İmralı Delegation visited AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 30.

The reconciliation process was discussed during the critical meeting held at the Palace. Regarding the meeting, Erdoğan made the following "We held an extremely constructive, productive, and promising meeting for the future with the DEM Party. Hopefully, we will see the reflections of this meeting in the coming days." statement.

Erdoğan's chief advisor, Mehmet Uçum, made notable assessments regarding the commission in the TBMM in an article where he summarized the developments in the reconciliation process.

Stating that a new phase has been reached in the reconciliation process, Uçum used the following "At this stage, it is also expected that the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, will hear Öcalan in İmralı before completing its hearing activities." expressions.

In the continuation of his article, Uçum stated that the reconciliation commission should prepare a democracy report and made the following assessment:

"In addition to these, it is among the general public's expectations that the Commission prepares a perspective report on the development and strengthening of democracy, consistent with its name. The Commission may write the democracy report separately from the transition process law report. Or it may prepare a single report consisting of two sections titled 'Transition Process' and 'Democracy.' These are entirely at the discretion and decision of the Commission. However, if the Commission completes its task without preparing the report on strengthening democracy, this could be considered a deficiency. It could even be seen as a waste of a strong opportunity to build consensus for advancing democracy if the Commission, which possesses more than ninety percent of the representative power in the TBMM, does not utilize this possibility."

The entirety of Uçum's article titled"Actions Taken and New Expected Steps in the Transition Process to a Terror-Free Turkey!" is as follows:

"We are walking with firm steps toward the goal of a Terror-Free Turkey, which has been implemented as a State policy with the national leadership of President Erdoğan and the wise and courageous initiatives of Devlet Bahçeli.

The transition process officially began with President Erdoğan's opening speech at the Turkish Grand National Assembly on October 1, 2024, and Mr. Bahçeli's handshake and dialogue initiative on the same day. 

During this period, the historic call made by Mr. Bahçeli on October 22, 2024, regarding Öcalan was a major move that broke the most conventions and concretized the subsequent steps in the transition process. 

Öcalan's 'Call for Peace and Democratic Society' dated February 27, 2025, declared dissolution and laying down arms. The findings made and the direction drawn by Öcalan in this call determined the subsequent practical steps and the new political perspective of the terrorist organization in the transition process.  

Stating, 'Separate nation-state, federation, administrative autonomy, and culturalist solutions, which are the inevitable result of extreme nationalist drifting, cannot be an answer to historical social sociology,' Öcalan defined integration with the state and society as the new goal. It is also observed that democratic politics as the only legitimate method to reach this goal has turned into a general acceptance for the defunct terrorist organization and its associated political and social channels. 

Subsequently; May 12, 2025, when the dissolution decision was announced, 

July 11, 2025, when the symbolic burning of weapons took place, 

October 1, 2025, when President Erdoğan made the new legislative year opening speech, which set out the guarantees for the transition to a Terror-Free Turkey,

October 26, 2025, when the defunct terrorist organization announced the withdrawal, which is the normal result of dissolution and laying down arms, and 

October 30, 2025, when President Erdoğan accepted the İmralı delegation again, were steps that matured the transition process and brought it closer to an end.

It is also necessary to underline President Erdoğan's statement regarding the acceptance of the İmralı delegation: 'We held an extremely constructive, productive, and promising meeting for the future with them. Hopefully, we will see the reflections of this meeting in the coming days.'

It is understood that we have now moved to a phase where new developments will occur. 

At this stage, it is also expected that the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, will hear Öcalan in İmralı before completing its hearing activities. 

It was announced by the Speaker of the TBMM, Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş, that following the hearing activities, the Commission will prepare the report on the law of the transition process. 

In addition to these, it is among the general public's expectations that the Commission prepares a perspective report on the development and strengthening of democracy, consistent with its name. The Commission may write the democracy report separately from the transition process law report. Or it may prepare a single report consisting of two sections titled 'Transition Process' and 'Democracy.' These are entirely at the discretion and decision of the Commission. As has been stated many times before, a Terror-Free Turkey is not an end but a beginning. With the transition to a Terror-Free Turkey, a new era will begin for both Turkey and the region. There is no doubt that the reports to be written by the TBMM National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission on the law of the transition process and the development of democracy will make a significant contribution to the start of this era. 

As our President Erdoğan said: 'We will continue our work with a sensitive, constructive, and embracing approach. We will definitely start a new era where the prices our nation has paid have not gone in vain, and where peace, security, tranquility, and brotherhood prevail not only within our borders but also beyond our borders.' We will succeed with this belief and confidence."
