'Night vacuuming and speeding' become grounds for divorce
In Istanbul, Emre E., who has been married for 9 months, filed for divorce against his wife, Feyza K.E., on the grounds that she disturbed neighbors by vacuuming the house late at night and endangered him by driving at high speeds.
The divorce process of technician Emre E. and his wife, interior designer Feyza K.E., in Istanbul has drawn attention. Nine months after their marriage, Emre E. applied to the Anatolian Duty Family Court and filed for divorce against his wife. In the lawsuit, he cited allegations of late-night cleaning and speeding as grounds, and demanded 200 thousand lira in non-pecuniary and 300 thousand lira in pecuniary damages.
'YOU ALWAYS THINK OF OTHERS'
In the petition, Emre E. claimed that his wife, Feyza K.E., acted insensitively regarding disturbing the neighbors. According to his claim, despite warnings from their downstairs neighbors not to clean at night, Feyza K.E. continued to vacuum the house at night, and when her husband warned her, an argument ensued with her saying, "You always think of others."
The petition also stated that Feyza K.E. drove at high speeds due to jealousy and that this situation endangered the safety of both herself and her husband.
WE COULD NOT FIND A REAL REASON FOR DIVORCE
Feyza K.E.'s lawyer, Ümit Erdoğan, stated in their response to the petition that the grounds put forward did not constitute a real reason for divorce. Erdoğan said, "These allegations look more like excuses than grounds for divorce. My client is a working woman; it is normal for her to clean after coming home in the evening."
'SHE DOES NOT WANT TO DIVORCE'
Stating that his client does not want a divorce and loves her husband, Erdoğan said, "The husband had filed for divorce, but since my client does not want to divorce, we submitted our response petition accordingly."
THE CASE CONTINUES
Three hearings have been held so far in the divorce case filed in September of last year, but no decision has been reached yet. The case continues as a contested divorce.
