Nihal and Bahar Candan sisters were arrested: 6 detained, 3 arrested in new operation

A new development has occurred in the investigation into social media influencers Nihal and Bahar Candan, who were detained 2 months ago on charges of laundering proceeds of crime and arrested on charges of membership in a criminal organization. 

NEW OPERATION CONDUCTED

A new operation was carried out against individuals identified as having links to the organization, which allegedly defrauded citizens using the 'carp spiral' method by claiming to sell vehicles at low prices, and which reportedly invited the Candan sisters to meetings with victims to gain their trust.

3 MORE PEOPLE ARRESTED

Berk E. (21), Şahin B. (46), Barış V. (45), Ali K. (92), Ebu B.G., and Ahmed Y.Ç., who were identified as having links to the organization, were detained by teams from the Public Security Branch Office Fraud Bureau. Following the investigation, 3 of the 6 people sent to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse were arrested. Judicial control measures were imposed on two individuals.

FIRST OPERATION CONDUCTED IN 2021

The traces of this operation date back to 2021. Working under the instructions of the prosecutor's office, the Fraud Bureau teams determined that a fraud network operating in different provinces of Turkey was defrauding citizens with the promise of selling vehicles put up for sale by official institutions and organizations through foreclosure at low prices. In the first investigation, which was launched upon the complaints of 50 complainants, it was determined that the network had defrauded citizens of approximately 100 million TL.

24 PEOPLE ARRESTED FIRST

As a result of the work carried out within this scope, 24 suspects were apprehended in June 2021. The 24 people caught were arrested. The second phase of the investigation involved an operation in May 2023, in which 6 people were detained. 5 of the 6 people detained were arrested.

NİHAL AND BAHAR CANDAN SISTERS ALSO ARRESTED

While the work was ongoing, 3 people, including sisters Nihal Candan and Bahar Candan, who were alleged to have laundered proceeds of crime, were detained in November 2023 as part of this investigation. Nihal and Bahar Candan were arrested on charges of being members of a criminal organization.
