Nine more countries become BRICS 'partners': Trump issues threats

BRICS, which is frequently threatened by US President Donald Trump and which Turkey has applied to join, continues to grow. Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan will participate in BRICS with 'partner country' status. It was stated that invitations have been sent to four other countries whose names have not been disclosed.

The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan will be part of BRICS in 2025.

In a written statement, the ministry recalled that an agreement was reached at the BRICS Summit held in the city of Kazan, Russia, on the establishment of a partner state status within the bloc.

It was stated that in addition to the nine countries, invitations were sent to four more countries to join with the same status.

The statement, which provided information that Brazil, the 2025 BRICS chair, would make the relevant announcement if the four countries accept, said, "We plan to establish close cooperation with partner countries so that they can participate in cooperation within the bloc as effectively as possible."

WHAT IS BRICS, WHICH COUNTRIES ARE MEMBERS?

BRICS emerged as an alternative to Western economic cooperation. It was established for economic and cultural cooperation under the leadership of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. At the beginning of this year, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE also joined BRICS. Turkey has also applied to join the bloc.
