No lessons learned! Another earthquake, another mobile network crisis: Minister Uraloğlu denies it

Following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, disruptions in the communication infrastructure drew attention. Mobile operators, which have been frequently criticized after previous major earthquakes, struggled to maintain communication in the region this time as well. In the earthquake zone, the failure of mobile phone calls and the jamming of communication lines left the public in a difficult situation.

STATEMENT FROM THE MAYOR: WE COULD NOT ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION

Sındırgı Mayor Serkan Sak addressed the communication problems experienced after the earthquake, stating, "We had difficulty reaching some places because the mobile networks were not working. Such problems prevent timely aid and interventions from reaching their destination." The mayor expressed the difficulties faced by those who wanted to send aid to the earthquake zone in terms of establishing communication.

HAVE THE LESSONS FROM PREVIOUS EARTHQUAKES BEEN FORGOTTEN?

Mobile operators had also received heavy criticism during the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred on February 6. At that time, mobile lines were cut, and communication could not be established in the earthquake zone for days.

MINISTER URALOĞLU DENIES IT

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that there were no interruptions in communication and that mobile base stations had been directed to the region.
