As the election marathon in the high judiciary continues, the deadlock in the Court of Cassation presidential elections has yet to be resolved.
The 4-year term of Akarca, who was elected to the presidency of the Court of Cassation on March 24, 2020, expired as of March 24.
In this context, members of the Court of Cassation went to the polls on Monday, March 25, to determine the new president of the High Court, who will serve for the next 4 years.
Since no candidate was able to receive at least 175 votes, which is the absolute majority of the 348 Court of Cassation members, in the first 30 rounds of the election, a 31st round of voting was held.
As a result of the voting, Akarca received 96 votes, 3rd Civil Chamber President Ömer Kerkez received 107 votes, and 3rd Criminal Chamber President Muhsin Şentürk received 108 votes. While participation in the election was recorded as 319, 8 votes were declared invalid.
Due to the failure to reach an absolute majority, the 32nd round of voting will be held tomorrow.
An absolute majority of the total number of members is required to be present in the elections.
