No result in the tenth round either: Supreme Court of Appeals presidential elections to be renewed

In the tenth round of the presidential elections, which began following the expiration of Supreme Court of Appeals President Mehmet Akarca's 4-year term, no candidate was able to secure an absolute majority. As a result, the elections at the Supreme Court of Appeals will be renewed.

The election marathon in the high judiciary continues.

Following the expiration of Supreme Court of Appeals President Mehmet Akarca's 4-year term, Supreme Court of Appeals members went to the polls on Monday to elect a new president.

After no candidate was able to secure at least 175 votes, which is the absolute majority of the 348 Supreme Court of Appeals members, in the first eight rounds of the election, the ninth round of voting, in which Akarca and Kerkez participated, was held today.

As a result of the voting, Supreme Court of Appeals President Akarca received 119 votes, while 3rd Civil Chamber President Ömer Kerkez received 138 votes.

While participation in the election was recorded as 336, 11 of the votes cast were blank and 68 were considered invalid.

In the eighth round of voting, the other candidate, Muhsin Şentürk, had received 96 votes, 3 votes were considered invalid, and no blank votes were cast.

The election is continuing with the tenth round of voting.

An absolute majority of the total number of members must be present for the elections.

ELECTIONS AT THE SUPREME COURT OF APPEALS TO BE RENEWED

No result was reached in the tenth round of voting either. While Mehmet Akarca received 120 votes and Ömer Kerkez received 138 votes, 71 votes were considered invalid. With this result, the elections at the Supreme Court of Appeals will be renewed.

Following the candidacy applications that will begin this evening, the Supreme Court of Appeals will hold elections again tomorrow with its new candidates.

The election will last for 5 rounds, and the 2 candidates who receive the highest number of votes in the 3rd round will continue in the race.
