No unsolved murders in Istanbul in 2023
In Istanbul, one of the world's major megacities, 361 murders were committed in 2023. A total of 393 people, including 72 women, lost their lives in these incidents. The statistics reveal that all murders committed in the city in 2023 have been solved. The homicide bureau teams have been recorded in police files as the unit that has left no unsolved cases for three consecutive years.

Murder statistics for the year 2023 in the megacity of Istanbul have been revealed.
NO UNSOLVED CASES REMAIN
According to the revealed statistics, 361 murder incidents occurred in Istanbul in 2023.
In these incidents, a total of 393 people, 72 of whom were women, were killed. 750 people connected to the murders could not escape the Homicide Bureau and were taken into custody. Among those detained, a total of 479 people, including 23 women, were arrested and sent to prison.
MOST MURDERS COMMITTED WITH FIREARMS
According to the statistics, 229 of the 361 incidents were committed with firearms. 88 murders were committed with sharp or piercing instruments. The remaining 44 murders were committed using methods such as strangulation, staging as an accident, or pushing from heights.
21 FOREIGN NATIONALS WERE MURDERED
According to the revealed statistics, among the murders committed, a total of 21 foreign nationals, including one woman, fell victim to homicide.
Studies show that there were no unsolved cases in 2023. The Homicide Bureau teams also made a significant mark in the police department by becoming the unit that has left no unsolved files for three years in a row.
HIGH-PROFILE MURDERS INCLUDED
Many murders that occupied our agenda in 2023 took place in Istanbul. The murder suspect Mustafa P., who killed Dilara Gültay and Cansu Demirel in Kartal, was apprehended.
Halil Özdemir, a member of the Cyclists Association, disappeared mysteriously. His partially burned body was found in Zeytinburnu. The killer of Özdemir, a female suspect of Ethiopian nationality named M.E.H., was caught. The murder suspect Hakan Ö., who dismembered the body of 19-year-old Muhammed Nur Kasadar and placed it in a freezer in Bayrampaşa, was also apprehended.
The horror that took place at a convenience store in Esenyurt was discussed for days in Turkey. The murder suspect who killed Batuhan Bayındır and Yunus Emre Erzen at the store was caught. Doctor İbrahim Karahan was killed in Avcılar. The murder suspect Ali Asker K. could not escape the Homicide Bureau. Author Funda Demir killed her ex-husband Mustafa Çapar in Beşiktaş. Demir was caught after the murder. Police officer Cihat Ermiş, who responded to a report, was martyred. The murder suspect Muhammed Berke Çorak was apprehended.
COLD CASE FILES PULLED FROM THE SHELF WERE ALSO SOLVED
In addition to all these murders, cases remaining from previous years were also solved. Tekin Aytar, who was killed in 2006, was murdered by his friend Mehmet Ş.G. The murder suspect Mehmet Ş.G., who had been sought for 17 years, was captured as a result of diligent work. The murder of Muhittin Yıldız, who was killed in 2019, also took its place among the cases solved this year.
