No verdict reached in lawyer Fırat Epözdemir's case

Lawyer Fırat Epözdemir, a member of the Board of Directors of the Istanbul Bar Association, who was detained for a period and later released due to accusations of "membership in an organization" and "making propaganda for an organization," appeared in the courtroom for the third time today. No verdict was reached at the hearing, and the case was adjourned.

The court panel ruled that the next session will be held on January 29, 2025, at 14:00, due to the ongoing evaluation of the case file.

BACKGROUND OF THE CASE

Within the scope of the investigation conducted against Fırat Epözdemir, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office detained him on January 23; following three days of proceedings, he was arrested on allegations of "membership in an armed terrorist organization" and "making propaganda for an organization." He faces up to 20 years in prison due to these charges.

HE WAS RELEASED AT THE FIRST HEARING

At the first hearing held at the Istanbul 24th High Criminal Court, it was decided to end Epözdemir's detention and impose a travel ban.

Following the second hearing held on September 16, no decision on the merits was reached at the third session held today, November 27, 2025, and the trial was adjourned once again.
