Non-prosecution decision in 'bribery' investigation against Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer: Abstract allegations
The prosecutor's office has issued a decision of non-prosecution in the investigation conducted against the imprisoned former Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer regarding allegations that he received bribes from businessman Aziz İhsan Aktaş. The reasoning for the decision stated that there was no concrete evidence to support the accusations.
Ahmet Özer was arrested on October 30, 2024, as part of the "City Consensus" investigation and was released at a hearing held in July 2024.
However, shortly after, he was arrested again as part of the Aziz İhsan Aktaş investigation, this time on allegations of "rigging a tender."
The prosecutor's office had prepared an indictment against Özer on charges of "rigging a tender" and "forgery of a private document," and had also opened a separate file regarding 12 people within the municipality on allegations of "taking bribes."
"NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE, ABSTRACT ALLEGATIONS IN QUESTION"
In the prosecutor's decision, it was emphasized that the allegations were abstract in nature. The following statements were included in the decision, taken in accordance with Article 172/1 of the Criminal Procedure Code:
"It was alleged that the Bilginay company, owned by suspect Aziz İhsan Aktaş, paid bribes to the mayor and relevant officials in tenders it received from the Esenyurt Municipality. However, the suspects denied the accusations in their statements, and sufficient evidence that the crime was committed could not be obtained during the examinations. Therefore, it has been decided that there is no room for prosecution on behalf of the public."
The reasoned decision was shared with the public after the Aziz İhsan Aktaş indictment was accepted by the court.
