Not a military base but a mall: Gendarmerie parade in a shopping center
The celebration of the 185th anniversary of the Gendarmerie General Command at a shopping center in Osmaniye has drawn criticism. The footage has led to questioning the decision to remove the Gendarmerie from the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) structure and place it under the command of the Ministry of Interior.
The Gendarmerie General Command, which has appeared in state archives since 1839 and was attached to the Ministry of Interior in 2016, celebrated its 185th anniversary.
The fact that the celebration was held at a shopping mall in Osmaniye drew backlash.
CHP Deputy Chairman Yankı Bağcıoğlu made the following statements regarding the issue:
''I could give dozens of examples of the damage caused by weakening or even severing the Gendarmerie's ties with the TSK, but I suppose this is the latest and most concrete one!?
A band concert, a projection show, or an exhibition, etc., at a mall would have been more appropriate..''
