Notable decision for the Eiffel Tower

According to reports in the French press, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo has expressed her determination to implement a project to pedestrianize the area around the Eiffel Tower after the Olympics, a plan that was originally intended for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games (to be held from July 26 to August 11) but was rejected by the Paris Police Prefecture.

Hidalgo stated, "After the Olympics, the Trocadero (square) will be landscaped, the Pont d'Iena bridge will be pedestrianized, and the area up to the Champ de Mars will be reforested. This will create a large park in the center of Paris."

Announcing that she will ask the Paris Police Prefecture to re-evaluate this project after the Olympics, Hidalgo declared, "Vehicles will not return to the front of the Eiffel Tower after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games."

The proposal, which was approved by the Paris City Council in February 2022, had been rejected by former Paris Police Prefect Didier Lallement on the grounds that it would "obstruct traffic and cause delays."

The Iena Bridge connects the Trocadero Square to the Eiffel Tower. The Champ de Mars forms the large green space located opposite the Eiffel Tower.
