Notable decision from Alparslan Kuytul after his lawyers are detained
Furkan Foundation leader Alparslan Kuytul will provide his statement without a lawyer following the detention of two of his attorneys. It was reported that Kuytul will also refuse a defense counsel appointed by the bar association.
A new decision has been made regarding the statement process of Furkan Foundation leader Alparslan Kuytul following the detention of two of his lawyers. It was reported that Kuytul will provide his statement without a lawyer, including any counsel to be appointed by the bar association, stating that his right to defense is being obstructed.
BOTH OF HIS LAWYERS WERE DETAINED
Following the detention of one of Kuytul's lawyers, Bilal İpek, attorney Alişan İnci, who provided him with legal support during the detention process, was also taken into custody.
In a statement made from Kuytul's social media account, it was claimed that the detention of the two lawyers constitutes a serious violation of the right to defense. The statement further argued that these events serve as a deterrent message for other lawyers who might wish to defend Kuytul.
KUYTUL'S DECISION TO PROVIDE STATEMENT WITHOUT A LAWYER
The statement noted that for accusations with a lower limit exceeding 5 years, the presence of a lawyer during the statement process is a legal requirement under mandatory defense provisions.
It was conveyed that Kuytul believes his right to legal representation has been obstructed due to the detention of his lawyers, and for this reason, he has decided to provide his statement without a lawyer.
It was stated that Kuytul will also refuse a defense counsel to be appointed by the bar association.
WHAT HAPPENED IN THE FURKAN FOUNDATION INVESTIGATION?
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out at 49 addresses in 6 provinces centered in Adana. During the operations, many people, including Furkan Foundation leader Alparslan Kuytul and his wife Semra Kuytul, were detained.
Prior to the operation, a search was conducted at Kuytul's home by police teams. Extensive security measures were taken in the neighborhood by riot police units.
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that judicial proceedings have been initiated against 32 people within the scope of the investigation on charges of "criminal organization, fraud, and forgery of documents." Gürlek also reported that trustees were appointed to manage 5 companies and that a decision was made to block access to 349 social media accounts.
The fact that the operation was carried out the day after the "The water is heating up, you haven't learned your lesson" remarks in a social media post by Presidential Advisor Oktay Saral, following Kuytul's criticisms regarding the operations against Alihan Kuriş, has also become a topic of discussion.
