NSC's messages on Syria: Terror organizations feeding on instability will not be allowed
The National Security Council meeting has concluded. A written statement regarding the meeting is expected.
Regarding the topics discussed at the National Security Council, the following statement was issued by the Republic of Türkiye's Directorate of Communications on its social media account.
The National Security Council convened on December 5, 2024, under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
At the meeting;
1. The Council was briefed on the operations conducted with determination, resolve, and success both domestically and abroad against all kinds of threats and dangers to our national unity, solidarity, and survival, primarily the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH terrorist organizations, as well as recent international developments.
2. While expressing the hope that the ceasefire achieved in Lebanon will be permanent, attention was drawn to the importance of adhering to international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions to put an end to Israel's borderless massacres and aggression; it was underscored that Türkiye will maintain its stance toward achieving a fair and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
3. It was stated that it is important to take necessary measures to ensure that recent developments in Syria do not harm the life and property security of the civilian population, and that this once again demonstrates that the regime must reconcile with its own people and the legitimate opposition; it was expressed that our country has always strongly supported the preservation of Syria's territorial integrity and unity and is ready to provide all necessary contributions; it was emphasized that terrorist organizations attempting to exploit the environment of instability will never be allowed to pass, and that any threat directed at our national security and our people will be eliminated.
4. The latest situation regarding the war in Ukraine was discussed, and the potential effects of international developments on the course of the issue were evaluated; attention was drawn to the importance of preventing the tendency for the war to escalate, as well as reaching an urgent ceasefire and a just peace.
5. Our expectation and hope that the positive developments recorded in the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will result in a peace treaty were emphasized; it was noted that the permanent peace to be established will be in the interest of all actors in our region.
