Numan Kurtulmuş elected Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye

In the General Assembly, following speeches outside the agenda, group deputy chairmen took the floor to make assessments regarding the agenda.

Subsequently, the group proposal of the AKP regarding the agenda and working hours of the General Assembly, the determination of the members of the TBMM Presidential Council, and the number of members for the commissions was discussed.

According to the accepted proposal, the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Execution of Penal and Security Measures and Certain Other Laws, known in the public as the "10th Judicial Package," was moved to the top of the General Assembly agenda.

The General Assembly will discuss the 10th Judicial Package today. If the deliberations on this proposal cannot be completed, the General Assembly will continue to work tomorrow. The General Assembly will not be in session on Tuesday, June 10.

With the vote taken, the motion by DEM Party Istanbul Deputy Çiçek Otlu to directly include the "Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations" in the General Assembly agenda was not accepted.

Afterward, the proceedings moved to the parliamentary speaker elections.

2ND ROUND HELD

None of the 5 candidates in the TBMM speaker election reached the 400 votes required for election. The 2nd round is being held.

AKP Istanbul Deputy Numan Kurtulmuş, CHP Artvin Deputy Uğur Bayraktutan, DEM Party Diyarbakır Deputy Osman Cengiz Çandar, IYI Party Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Cihan Paçacı, and New Way Party (Yeni Yol Partisi) Samsun Deputy Mehmet Karaman became candidates for the Speaker of the TBMM.

AKP Antalya Deputy Atay Uslu withdrew his candidacy before the voting began.

In the election to be held by secret ballot, a two-thirds majority of the total number of members is required in the first and second rounds, and an absolute majority is required in the third round. If an absolute majority cannot be achieved in the third round, a fourth round will be held for the two candidates who received the most votes in that round. The member who receives the most votes in the fourth round will become the speaker.

Following the briefing on the election process by TBMM Deputy Speaker Bekir Bozdağ, the first round of voting began.

Kurtulmuş, who was a candidate for the Speaker of the Parliament again, shook hands with the group deputy chairmen and deputies of the parties as he entered the General Assembly Hall.

The first round of voting for the 28th Term Speaker of the Parliament at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) has been completed. While 549 deputies participated in the voting, AK Party Istanbul Deputy Numan Kurtulmuş finished the first round in the lead by receiving 305 votes.

The distribution of votes in the first round of the parliamentary speaker election is as follows;

Numan Kurtulmuş: 305

Uğur Bayraktutan: 122

Cihan Paçacı: 30

Cengiz Çandar: 50

Mehmet Karaman: 31

Blank vote: 1, Invalid vote: 10

To be elected Speaker of the Parliament, two-thirds of the total number of members (400 votes) must be secured in the first two rounds. If this majority is not achieved, the election will proceed to the third round. In the third round, an absolute majority (301 votes) will be sufficient.

KURTULMUŞ ELECTED IN THE 3RD ROUND

AKP Istanbul Deputy Numan Kurtulmuş was re-elected as the Speaker of the TBMM by receiving 329 votes in the third round of voting at the TBMM General Assembly.

529 deputies participated in the third round of voting in the General Assembly.

AKP Istanbul Deputy Kurtulmuş received 329 votes, CHP Artvin Deputy Uğur Bayraktutan 118, DEM Party Diyarbakır Deputy Osman Cengiz Çandar 18, IYI Party Istanbul Deputy Mustafa Cihan Paçacı 26, and New Way Party Samsun Deputy Mehmet Karaman 26 votes. One vote was cast blank, and 11 votes were deemed invalid.

Accordingly, Kurtulmuş was re-elected as the Speaker of the TBMM by receiving more than the absolute majority of the total number of members, which is 301, in the third round of voting.

Numan Kurtulmuş's wife, Sevgi Kurtulmuş, and his family also watched the third round of the elections from the gallery in the General Assembly Hall.
