Number of detentions in 'terrorism' investigation into CHP municipalities rises to 34

The number of people detained as part of an investigation into the CHP-run Şişli and Sarıyer municipalities, on the grounds that they "provided financing to the DHKP-C through tenders between 2014 and 2016," has risen to 34. 

Melih Morsümbül, the Deputy Mayor of Manisa Şehzadeler who served as the Chief of Staff to the Ataşehir Mayor at the time, and Ahmet Serdar Demirtaş, a partner at the Kazova Tekstil firm during that period, were also detained.

Thus, the number of people detained within the scope of the investigation has risen to 34.

ŞÜKRÜ GENÇ TO GIVE STATEMENT

It has been learned that former Sarıyer Mayor Şükrü Genç will also provide a statement as part of the investigation.

Cengiz Kahraman, who served as Press Advisor during Şükrü Genç's term as mayor, made the following statement:

"It is not true that Şükrü Genç has been detained. He was not detained; he was summoned to give a statement. He is currently on his way from Çanakkale to Istanbul to provide his statement. There is no account that Şükrü Genç, who served as a successful mayor for 3 terms, cannot give."
