Number of first-time voters for March 31 elections announced

According to the Election Calendar for the Local Administration General Elections to be held on March 31, prepared by the Supreme Election Council (YSK), voter registers were finalized on February 7.

The YSK has determined the number of registered voters for the election to be 61 million 441 thousand 882. According to YSK data, 1 million 32 thousand 610 people who have turned 18 will cast their votes for the first time in this election. Of the voters, 50.59 percent are women and 49.41 percent are men.

In the Presidential Election held on May 28, 2023, the number of domestic voters was determined to be 60 million 771 thousand 236.

VOTER LISTS TO BE REVIEWED AGAIN AS OF MARCH 23

As of March 23, 2024, the General Directorate of Voter Registers will mark voters who have died, renounced citizenship, been conscripted, convicted, or restricted as "cannot vote" on the ballot box voter lists.

In this context, on March 23, the General Directorate of Voter Registers will obtain information regarding deceased voters and those who have renounced Turkish citizenship from the General Directorate of Population and Citizenship Affairs, and information regarding voters whose restriction decisions have been finalized, as well as those who are convicts in penal institutions for non-negligent crimes, from the Ministry of Justice.

Additionally, information regarding those currently under arms will be obtained from the Ministry of National Defense's Recruitment General Directorate, and the necessary procedures will be carried out to mark them as "cannot vote" on the ballot box voter lists.

In the elections where 81 provincial, 973 district, and 390 town mayors, as well as 50 thousand 336 neighborhood heads (muhtars) will be determined, elections for provincial general assembly members and municipal council members will also be held.
