Number of Syrians who have left Turkey revealed

The Presidency of Migration Management has shared current data with the public regarding voluntary returns from Turkey to Syria. According to the statement, the number of Syrians under temporary protection who have returned to their country since 2016 has reached 1 million 440 thousand 123.

According to the data shared by the agency, the number of those who have returned to Syria in a voluntary, safe, dignified, and orderly manner since December 8, 2024, has been recorded as 700 thousand 120.

NUMBER OF SYRIANS IN TURKEY ANNOUNCED

The Presidency of Migration Management stated that data regarding Syrians under temporary protection status in Turkey continues to be shared with the public on a weekly basis. According to current records, the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey was announced as 2 million 255 thousand 31.

"DATA FROM DIFFERENT PERIODS WAS CONFUSED"

In an information note issued following some assessments that have recently come to the public's attention, the Presidency pointed out that the figures announced cover different time periods. Accordingly, the data of 1 million 440 thousand 123 people represents the total voluntary returns that have taken place since 2016, while the figure of 700 thousand 120 people covers only the returns that have occurred after December 8, 2024.

The statement also noted that the return process is being conducted on a voluntary basis, within the framework of international law, and under the supervision of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and requested that the public be cautious against claims shared outside of official data.
