Nurettin Yıldız protests that began at Boğaziçi spread to Galatasaray University
Protests against theologian Nurettin Yıldız, who was invited as a speaker to Boğaziçi University and drew backlash for his remarks that "marriage at the age of six is possible," have spread to Galatasaray University. During the protests, a heated exchange occurred between renowned historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı and students.
Theologian Nurettin Yıldız, who stated that "marriage at the age of six is possible," had been invited as a speaker to Boğaziçi University. During the protests, 97 Boğaziçi University students were detained, and 6 were arrested and sent to prison.
Galatasaray University students have also joined the protests that began at Boğaziçi.

After the 'Civilization Club' located within the university shared a statement describing the protests against Nurettin Yıldız as an 'ugly attack,' Galatasaray University students organized a protest of their own.
'BE QUIET, I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR TURKISH'
However, students and the renowned historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı came face to face.
In footage recorded on a mobile phone, Ortaylı is heard saying to a student, "Be quiet. Listen to me first. I don't understand your Turkish."

'I DO NOT WANT THE SCHOOL TO CLOSE OR THE ADMINISTRATION TO CHANGE'
Continuing his remarks, Ortaylı attempted to calm the students, saying, "End this protest now. I do not want this school to close or its administration to change."

'HOW CAN THERE BE A PROFESSOR WHO DEFENDS PEDOPHILIA?'
The students responded to Ortaylı, asking, "How can there be a professor who defends pedophilia?"
No official statement has been made by the university administrations regarding the incident yet.
