Scandalous 'child marriage' defense from Nurettin Yıldız! 'Islam has no age limit'
Nurettin Yıldız, President of the Social Fabric Foundation (Sosyal Doku Vakfı), who argues that child marriages are in accordance with the Quran, stated, "Our Sharia regarding marriage has no age limit in Islam. A child can be married even before reaching puberty."
Nurettin Yıldız, President of the Social Fabric Foundation, has argued that child marriages are in accordance with the Quran.
"Our Sharia regarding marriage has no age limit in Islam. A child can be married even before reaching puberty," said Yıldız, adding, "The provision regarding the fact that young children can also be married is the 4th verse of the Surah At-Talaq. It says those who have not yet menstruated should wait three months. Who does not menstruate? Those of child age. This means that the Quran accepts that children can be married before they have reached puberty."
REACTION TO SCANDALOUS STATEMENTS FROM ŞAHİN FİLİZ
Theologian and philosopher Prof. Dr. Şahin Filiz reacted to Yıldız's scandalous statements.
As reported by Aytunç Ürkmez from Cumhuriyet, Prof. Dr. Şahin Filiz said, "This is blatant perversion. These baseless claims are a challenge to secular law and the cultural values of Turkish society."
Prof. Dr. Filiz stated, "Suggesting that children can be married even before puberty is, first and foremost, a legitimization of sexual harassment and aggression against children. Furthermore, marriage, even if encouraged in Islam, is neither related to believing or not believing in the Quran, nor is it a requirement of Sharia. Defending child marriage cannot be equated with having faith in the Quran and Islam."
