Objection filed against decision denying investigation permission for 7 public officials in Saitbey Sitesi case

In the case concerning the Saitbey Sitesi, which was heavily damaged and collapsed during the February 6 Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, resulting in the loss of 44 lives, the decision not to grant permission for an investigation into 7 public officials has drawn backlash. 

The Saitbey Sitesi in the Dulkadiroğlu district of Kahramanmaraş had completely collapsed during the earthquakes despite being built within the scope of urban transformation.

INVESTIGATION PERMISSION HAD BEEN REQUESTED

The Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, based on an expert report prepared by faculty members from Karadeniz Technical University, requested permission to investigate public officials responsible for building permits and project inspections at the Dulkadiroğlu Municipality on charges of "causing death and injury by negligence" and "misconduct in office."

However, the Kahramanmaraş Governorship Provincial Administrative Board Directorate did not grant permission for the investigation into the 7 public officials. 

According to the decision signed by Dulkadiroğlu District Governor Fatih Çelikkaya on June 4, 2024, it was stated that there was no need to open an investigation following the preliminary examination report prepared by inspectors.

Families who lost their loved ones in the Saitbey Sitesi, objecting to this decision, submitted a petition to the Presidency of the Gaziantep Regional Administrative Court. A re-evaluation of the decision is being requested.
