Obstetrician induced premature births by administering drugs to pregnant women: Thousands of women victimized

Shocking allegations have emerged against Dr. P.Ç., an obstetrician working at a private hospital in Sancaktepe, Istanbul. Obstetrician induced premature births by administering drugs to pregnant women: Thousands of women victimized

In a complaint filed with the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate in September 2025, it was alleged that approximately 8,000 births took place at the same hospital between 2015 and 2025, and that a significant portion of these occurred at 32, 34, and 36 weeks, i.e., before the normal term. It was claimed that some pregnancies, which should normally last 40 weeks, were terminated prematurely, causing some babies to be admitted to intensive care and suffer from permanent health problems.

DRUG USE WITHOUT PATIENT KNOWLEDGE

The complaints specifically alleged that during examinations, some patients were administered a drug called "Cytotec" vaginally without their knowledge. It was stated that this drug, which can induce labor and lead to birth in a short time, should only be used in post-term pregnancies or postpartum, and that it carries serious risks for both mother and baby in premature births.

MINISTRY TAKES ACTION

Following the report received in September 2025, teams from the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health began examining patient files and medical records at the hospital. It was learned that an administrative investigation has been launched into Dr. P.Ç. and the hospital, and that a criminal complaint has been filed with the prosecutor's office.

OBSTETRICS DEPARTMENT CLOSED INDEFINITELY

Following the scandalous allegations, it was reported that the hospital's obstetrics outpatient clinic, maternity ward, and delivery room have been closed indefinitely. Ministry of Health officials announced that investigations at the hospital are ongoing and that staff statements have begun to be taken. An official statement regarding the incident is expected in the coming days.
