Officer who spied for Russia sentenced to prison in Germany
A captain serving in the German Armed Forces has been sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for spying for Russia.
The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court stated that the 54-year-old officer was found guilty of providing militarily sensitive information to Russia.
The statement noted that the officer was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison.
The captain, who confessed to the crime in court, had been taken into custody on August 9, 2023.
It was learned that during the period the captain was spying for Russia, he was a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, and later resigned from his party membership.
