Ogün Samast, the murderer of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink, was released under conditional release and was subsequently charged in another case, facing a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years for the crime of "committing a crime on behalf of an armed terrorist organization without being a member of it."
Following his release, Samast had filed a petition with the court in Trabzon to change his name. It had leaked to the press that Ogün Samast wanted the name Ali Eren Karadeniz.
According to a report by Ersin Eroğlu from 10Haber, Samast's lawyer Hodo announced that Samast had abandoned the name change after it was reported in the press. The lawyer stated that the new application for a name change would be made after the conclusion of the case in which Samast is being tried.
